The Weedman :Part 1: Elaine looked up at the bleak grey sky and shivered into her jacket. It was getting dark, and she was terrified to be out here. The world stretched enormously in all directions, and this expanse of Vermont highway was utterly deserted. She couldnt see a single obstacle for miles; the road spread out endlessly before her, a dirty cement runway to eternity. Vast fields of reeds or some kind of tall willowy plants lined both sides of the road. How in the world would she find another person out here? She supposed she would just have to keep walking. She checked in with no great difficulty, her lightly packed suitcase stuffed under one arm and her purse in the other. Karen Smith, she signed in; the name was dull and unremarkable, and anyone looking through hotel registries wouldnt give this one a second glance. No one questioned her, at any rate- she did look like a Karen Smith... a dull, unexceptional Karen Smith. Her sunglasses did raise a few eyebrows though, especially at this hour.
